Can Large Language Models Represent the World?

A two-day workshop organised by Eliot du Sordet and Niels Linnemann, hosted by the University of Geneva. Maison Internationale des Associations, Rue des Savoises 15, Geneva.

What does it mean for a system trained exclusively on text to genuinely represent and understand the world? Two days of philosophy, linguistics and artificial intelligence on that question, with keynotes by Emily E. Sullivan (University of Edinburgh) and Matthieu Queloz (University of Bern), and talks by Reto Gubelmann, Susana Carvalho dos Reis, Pierre Beckmann, Iwan Williams, Cameron Yetman, Caroline Bryant and Eliot du Sordet.

Most members of PhilInterp speak at the workshop, and it is where the network first meets in person.

What comes next

The network plans to meet at further events, some of which it will organise itself, and to hold occasional online sessions in which members present papers or work in progress. Dates will appear here.
